Kristin Ziemke

Kristin Ziemke has spent her career teaching and learning from children in both urban and suburban school districts.  As a first grade teacher in the Chicago Public Schools, Kristin engages students in authentic learning experiences where reading, thinking, collaboration and inquiry are at the heart of the curriculum.  Recognizing that the teacher needs to be the chief learner, she has spent the past few years learning about technology and pairing best practice instruction with digital tools to transform learning in the classroom and beyond.   Featured on Stephanie Harvey and Smokey Daniel’s DVD, Inquiry Circles in Elementary Classrooms, and in Smokey's Best Practice, 4th e.d., Kristin presents around the country on best practice literacy teaching and learning and provides professional development on technology integration.  She has recently authored a book with Stephanie Harvey and Anne Goudvis to extend the Comprehension Toolkit lessons with technology, Connecting Comprehension and Technology. Kristin is an Apple Distinguished Educator, a National Board Certified teacher, a Golden Apple and Earthwatch Fellow, and winner of the Kohl McCormick Early Childhood Teaching Award.
